Summary
Story of Matthew Ryan, who went from Irish immigrant to cattle king of Leavenworth, Kansas, in partnership with George W. Lang. Well-known through the West, they purchased cattle from Washington and Oregon to drive herds six times a year to the railhead in Cheyenne, Wyoming, from 1877 to 1882. Ryan's four sons later took over the business to form Ryan Brothers, which established ranches in Montana and Arizona and expanded the empire into a successful gold mining operation in the California desert, which now is in Joshua Tree National Park.
